Born on 25 February 1977 in the town of Lukovit, Lovech region



Education and Training

2001 – Bachelor’s degree in crime counteraction and protection of public order from the Academy of the Ministry of Interior

2010 – Master’s degree in law from the South West University Neofit Rilski in Blagoevgrad

Attended different courses for additional qualification in the Academy of the Ministry of Interior, as well as law enforcement trainings in the Netherlands, Germany, ILEA Budapest (2015) and ILEA Roswell (2017)


Professional Experience      

Started working for the Ministry of Interior in 1999 and passed through different positions, including police commander and head of group in Sofia Metropolitan Directorate of Interior, Deputy Director of Airports Regional Directorate of Border Police and Director of Dragoman Regional Directorate of Border Police (responsible for the Bulgarian-Serbian border).

In May 2017 he was appointed Director of Sofia Metropolitan Directorate of Interior.

Pursuant to a decree of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria of 18 December 2018, Chief Commissioner Ivaylo Ivanov was appointed Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior
