Bulgaria and Türkiye Advance Plans for New Border Crossing for Heavy Goods Vehicles

Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev announced accelerated efforts to establish the new Kapitan Andreevo–Kapıkule North border crossing, dedicated to heavy goods vehicles.

During a bilateral meeting with Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Sezai Uçarmak, the Minister highlighted the project's importance in reducing waiting times, improving traffic management and strengthening transport connectivity along the EU’s busiest land border.

Both sides visited the proposed site and expressed readiness to finalise an agreement and establish a joint expert commission.

The delegations also discussed cooperation against drug trafficking, smuggling and irregular migration, as well as ongoing improvements to existing border crossings.
