With master riding competitions, the equestrian squadron of the Sofia Metropolitan Police Directorate celebrated Todorovden and its 70th anniversary

At the stadium in the capital’s “Benkovski” district, the mounted police officers presented a festive formation with horses, jumping over obstacles, a burning hoop and the so-called “horseshoe”, as it is particularly difficult for the horse to overcome its innate fear of fire, and also to jump through a narrow space. The event demonstrated the joint work of various units of the Specialized Police Forces of the Sofia Metropolitan Police Directorate - riot control with the participation of the “Mounted Police” group and officers from the directorate, handlers of service dogs; capturing and neutralizing an armed attacker. The Minister of Interior Emil Dechev, the acting Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior Georgi Kandev, and the Director of the Sofia Metropolitan Police Directorate, Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov, were present.

This year’s celebration coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Mounted Police, established in 1956 as a Squadron under the Sofia City Administration.
