Senior Commissioner Atanas Ilkov was born on December 20, 1964 in Pazardzhik.

  Education:
South-West University “Neofit Rilski”, Blagoevgrad, Master's degree in law. 
Special courses at the International Law Enforcement Academies in Budapest, Hungary and Roswell, New Mexico, USA.
 
  Professional career: 
Senior Commissioner Atanas Ilkov joined the system of the Ministry of Interior in 1987. His career passed through Pazardzhik Regional Directorate of Interior, Criminal Police, Head of Sector "Operative support for detention places", Head of Sector in Directorate National Police, Head of "Criminal Police" Department in General Directorate Criminal Police. In July 2016 he was appointed head of the Criminal Police Department of the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of Interior, a year later he headed the Plovdiv Regional Directorate of Interior. From July 2019 he headed the Kardzhali Regional Directorate of Interior, and from 2020 the Kazanlak Center for Specialized Police Training.
 
By order of the Minister of Interior dated 02.08.2021 he was appointed Deputy Director of General Directorate National Police.
