1998-2000 – post-graduate qualification, degree in Law at the Institute for Post-Graduate Qualification of the University for National and World Economy – Sofia;
1988-1992 – Master’s degree at the National Sports Academy in Sofia, physical education and coach profile.

In the course of his professional service he acquired the following additional qualifications:
2008 – Young Political Leaders International Programme of U.S. Department of State – Washington, USA;
April 2008 – NATO Headquarters, Brussels;
May 2005 – courses in Countering Illegal Trafficking in Motor Vehicles at the General Police Directorate in Madrid and in Controlled Deliveries Related to Weapons for Mass Destruction organized in Sofia by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security;
December 2004 – course in Combating Global Terrorism at the External Information Service of the General Police Directorate in Madrid;
November 2004 – training in International Policing and Security in Munich, Germany;
August 2004 – one-month management course at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Roswell, New Mexico;

Professional experience
Tsvetan Tsvetanov won the support of the National Assembly as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior in the Cabinet of Boyko Borissov on July 27th, 2009.
Elected Majority Member of Parliament as representative of GERB party at the 41st National Assembly from Veliko Tarnovo region at the elections on July 5th, 2009.
November 2005 – Deputy Mayor in charge of security, coordination and control at Sofia Municipality;
2001-2005 – Head of section (operational assistant to the MoI Secretary General), MoI management;
1987-2001 – expert, inspector, senior inspector, chief inspector, head of group and chief expert at the Ministry of Interior.

Awards
1987-2005 – In the course of his 18-year professional work within the Ministry of Interior he received many different awards by the management of the Ministry.
Presented also with the following international awards:
- 2005 – White Cross of Law Enforcement Merit Medal by the Spanish National Police, awarded by the Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Spain;
- 2004 – Certificate of Appreciation by the Director of Europol, Jürgen Storbeck, for successful results and outstanding contribution in countering dissemination of counterfeit Euro;
- 2009 – Certificate for outstanding international operational police cooperation awarded by the Director of Europol, Rob Wainwright;
- 2009 - insignia of honor for outstanding performance of official duties, awarded by the Minister of the Interior of Lithuania Raimundas Palaitis.
